Oscar Winner Melissa Leo Champions at the International Movie Awards Jakarta

(03/13/16) Best Film International Movie Awards (IMA) 2016 finally goes to The Butterfly, The Harp, and The Timepiece from United States. The film tells about three characters (a vagabond, an office woman, and a former executive) who visit a unique magical pawnshop, dazzled with their own hopes and whirling dreams when they see things that bring back their memories. The film is directed by Rodney Vance and starred by Oscar winner actress Melissa Leo, and Golden Globe winner Alex Ebert, and composed by Grammy Award winner, Alex Geringas.


Other nomination for best films are Adolfo Perez Esquivel: Rivers of Hope (United States) directed by Dawn Engle, Before Spring (Egypt) directed by Ahmed Atef, Dreamalities (France) directed by Damien Steck, Elephants in Motion: Tales of Life Transformation (Thailand) directed by Narumol Sriyanond, Escapes (Spain) directed by Mercedes Gaspar, Silhouette Secrets (United Kingdom) directed by Andi Reiss, The Peace Experience (Austria) directed by Jason Whisman, and Zoo (United States) directed by Monda Raquel Webb.

The five years film festival has a long list of Hollywood stars winners, including Liam Neeson, Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio, James Cromwell, etc. This year, IMA works closely with the International Film Festival for Women, Social Issues, and Zero Discrimination to commemorate the International Women's Day (8 March) and Zero Discrimination Day (March 1).

The glorious Awards Night was held at the Auditorium Radio Republic Indonesia Jakarta and attended by Minister of Social Affairs Dra. Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Minister of Environment and Forestry Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Sc., Director of Public Broadcasting Radio Republik Indonesia Dra. Rosarita Niken Widiastuti M.Si., Advisor Council of Creative People and sister of former Indonesian President, Lily Wahid, senior artist Erna Santoso, Indonesian actress Roro Fitria, international composer Abah Ukam, and winning filmmakers from various country: Dr. Sajan George Kavinkalath, Dr. Shahida Akhter, Derrick Lui, Alfie Law, Alan Nguyen, Ahmed Atef, Sumathy Balaram, and more.

Winning films will be screened from March 7 in Russian Cultural Center Jakarta, Terrace Cibulan, Itinerant Cinema, several high schools, and other places. These films screening will be ended on March 30, which was the Indonesian Film Day.

Secretary General of the Council of Creative People (DKR), Dedeh Kurniasih, said briefly that this event is fully supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, i-Hebat International Volunteers, Terrace Cibulan Cafe, Care for Indonesian Children Foundation (Yayasan Peduli Anak Indonesia), Russian Culture Centre, World Film Council, and Radio Republic Indonesia (RRI) which is the official media partner as well as one of the festivals event organizers.
